A Trio of Christmas Colorways

I don’t know about you, but it always bugs me when I see Christmas decorations for sale in October, Halloween costumes for sale in July, and Cadbury Eggs for sale in January.

However, it’s a little different for all of us crafters, isn’t it? We have to plan ahead to actually make things in time for the holidays! I took some time off from dyeing the Advent calendars to make some Christmas colorways. That way, you have time to make something lovely as a gift or just to enjoy for yourself.

I have three colorways, and they all go together. In fact, I think a Christmas shawl made from all three colorways or a set of sofa pillows would be fantastic! Let me show you the three colorways.

The first one is Poinsettia, shown here on Buttery Soft DK:

Poinsettia is an Ikat colorway, which means I dye it using a resist to keep dye from one area while allowing the dye to saturate the rest. Then I take off the resist and dye that part. I love how Poinsettia works up. Here’s a closeup of a hat I made with it on Squoosh DK:

The second colorway is Christmas Candy, inspired by old-fashioned ribbon candy like this:

Here’s is Christmas Candy dyed on Squoosh DK. It’s a Splashed and Speckled colorway:

The last colorway is called Christmas Cookies, inspired by cookies like these:

I dyed the yarn in thirds with green on one end, red on the other end and white with red and green speckles (sprinkles!) in the middle. Here is Christmas Cookies dyed on Squoosh DK:

All three of these colorways are available dyed to order on any base you like!

You can see all three Christmas colorways right here.

Advent Calendar Update

The last month has been very, very busy! I’ve been dyeing up all the minis for the Advent calendars. In fact, I’m dyeing the last two mini skein colorways as I write this. After that I just have to dye the full-sized skeins, and then it will be time to start packaging them. That’s usually a family-wide event, which makes it go a lot faster. I can’t wait to show you all the colorways! I’ll do a reveal in January.

November Club Colorway

For November, I chose a very unique painting by Friedrich Schadow called Mignon. He was a German artist and the founder of a Dusseldorf School. He painted Mignon (a heroine from Goethe) in 1828. Here is the painting:

These rich yet soft colors will be really interesting as yarn and art batts!

Show and Tell

Last week I mentioned that I would be doing a Show and Tell newsletter either this week or next week. I wanted to get the Christmas colorways to you as quickly as possible, so let’s do it next week. It would be great to have a few more projects to share with everyone, so if you have a finished project or one you’re still working on, just email me a photo or two along with colorway and pattern info. I love sharing the beautiful things you make!

Have a wonderful weekend!
