In light of the new Odyssey movie, I thought this would be a good time to dye up some new batches of my Odyssey colorways. For each one, I created a symbol set of colors to match the characters’ personalities.

Here is Odysseus on Sock Perfection:

Odysseus’ colors include gold for wisdom, copper for understanding, red for courage, turquoise for hope, blue for loyalty, purple for royalty, and gray for his many trials.

Next of course is the ever-faithful Penelope whose wisdom and courage are a match for Odysseus:

Penelope’s colors include include gold for wisdom, copper for understanding, pink for femininity, blue for loyalty, turquoise for hope, and purple for royalty.

The third colorway was inspired by their son, Telemachus:

He does not yet have the wisdom of his parents, but he has many fine attributes nonetheless. His colors include copper for understanding, turquoise for hope, dark blue for loyalty, purple for royalty, and gray for the sadness he feels at the beginning of the epic.

While each colorway can certainly be used on its own, they look great together:

From left to right, the colorways are Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus.

If you want to add semi-solids to the mix, Regal, Turquoise, Caribbean Blue, and Annunciation Blue would all be great options.

I just realized that Dreams of the Sea, which is a Splashed and Speckled colorway, would look great with all three Odyssey colorways too!

While we’re on the topic, have you seen the movie? If so, what did you think of it?

My husband and I went to see it a couple days ago, and there were some things I really liked and other things I didn’t. I don’t want to give any spoilers though.

My hope is that this big movie production will lead lots of people to pick up the book that’s so foundational to our understanding of ourselves, which is, I think, the point of literature in general. Maybe it’s about time I read it again myself!

This one is an assigned pooling colorway. It looks great in my Dots and Squiggles cowl pattern…

Whimsical Stitch Markers

If you’d like to add something that’s sure to bring a smile to your face while you’re knitting or crocheting, we have a great selection of stitch markers in stock and ready to ship. I thought I’d point out a few of the really whimsical ones:

They all come in sets of five, and they work for both knitters and crocheters since the clasps opens. I’ve actually used some as loom weights as well–to add some weight to a loose warp thread while weaving.
