What’s New This Week

Good morning and happy Friday to you! As I write this, the temperatures are hovering just below 100 instead of above it for the first time in a couple of weeks, and it looks and feels like rain outside. I am hoping that we actually get some.

I hope you enjoyed last week’s Show and Tell newsletter. I certainly enjoyed seeing everyone’s amazing projects, and I already have a couple projects ready for the next one. Anytime you have a WIP or FO to share, feel free to email it to me when it’s convenient. I keep them in a folder until it’s time for the next Show and Tell. I do one every couple months.

What’s New

This week, I have several newly dyed colorways to share with you. I just dyed up several sold out butterfly colorways, so those are all in stock once again right now.

The yarn base I dye them on, Stained Glass Sock, is just so lovely and soft and perfect for a cuddly shawl.

I also dyed up a new batch of The Winedark Sea for the first time in quite a while. I can never decide whether my favorite yarn base for The Winedark Sea is Stained Glass Sock or Sparkly Merino Sock. Which one do you prefer?

As I have mentioned before, The Winedark Sea is based on a phrase in Homer’s Odyssey that is used again and again. Apparently the ancient Greeks had no idea or word for the color blue, which is so strange to me given that they are an island people. This color was my interpretation of what a winedark sea looks like.

I dyed up a fresh batch of Eggplant too. Here it is on Squoosh DK:

I also have Eggplant available on four other yarn bases. Eggplant is one of my core colorways. I use this dye in lots of different variegated colorways, so it works well with them.

The last colorway I want to show is actually in my steamers as I write this, but it’s Enchanted Forest, which is one of my perennial favorites. Here it is on Squiggle Sock:

…and here is Enchanted Forest on Sparkly Merino Sock crocheted into a beautiful summer shawl created by my friend, Donna, of Fig Basket Crochet:

My lovely daughter, Mary, is modeling it. You can find Donna’s crochet pattern right here. Not only does Donna have beautiful crocheted items that she sells, but she also has some great crochet tutorials on her youtube channel.

Coming Soon

Speaking of patterns, next Tuesday is the debut of Chic and Regal’s beautiful lacy Sparktacular Shawl. It’s a knitting pattern that uses just a single skein of Sparkly Merino Sock. I showed you a photo of it last week, and I’ll be talking all about it in next week’s newsletter, but if you want to get a head-start, I would recommend any semi-solid, Ikat, or Splashed and Speckled colorway of sock-weight yarn.

Happy fiber artistry!
