Show and Tell – July 2022

Good morning and happy Friday to you! This week is Show and Tell week, and I’m delighted to bring you some really beautiful and unique projects to inspire your next project. Many thanks to those of you who sent in photos of your latest WIP or FO for today.

Let’s start with Pat’s Work in Progress. She is making the (No Need to) Panic Sweater by Casapinka. This is the yoke as you can see. This is Pat’s second sweater using this fantastic pattern, and this time she used my new Pomegranate colorway on Squoosh DK.

Next up is Nicole’s fabulous hat. She used Woolly Wormhead’s DS Slouch pattern along with my Sunflower colorway. I actually just dyed up Sunflower on several bases this week.

Next up is perhaps the most creative use I have ever seen of my art batts. Caitlin shared these Magic Pumpkins she made using my Sedona art batts.

She even included lights, so it lights up. How cool is this?

The next project I get to show you is by Noelle. She crocheted this beautiful sweater using Annunciation Blue, Beautiful Universe, and Aubergine on Quick and Cozy Bulky. The pattern is the Oversized V-Neck Sweater by Carrie Chambers.

This next lovely project is by Katie. She used Monarch Butterfly on Stained Glass Sock and the Easy Goes It Shawl by Finicky Creations. She made a few modifications as she went.

The next project is a work in progress by Karen. She used Sedona Sunset and Lilac on Squoosh DK to make this beautiful shawl. She said she really enjoyed the longer runs of color.

This next project is my own. I wove the fabric for two ponchos at the same time–one for our daughter Mary as a birthday present and one for me. I warped the loom with Monet’s Cathedral and Phantom of the Opera on So Silky Sock in 3-inch stripes. Then for my shawl I used Bohemian Rhapsody on Sparkly Merino Sock as the weft. I tend to prefer warp stripes to weft stripes, so I only used one colorway for the weft.

For Mary’s poncho, I used A Little Princess on So Silky Sock as the weft. Here she is modeling it:

Each poncho consists of two separate pieces of fabric. To put together the ponchos, I sewed the side to the end and the end to the side.

The last project I want to show you is actually three projects! Amy made these beautiful Circle of Friends Shawls by Joji Locatelli for herself and two friends for their upcoming trip. She used a set of the Odyssey trio (Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus) along with Rosy-Fingered Dawn and The Winedark Sea. Amy and I went to the same college that has a big focus on the classics as did her friends, so you’ll notice that all the colorways are inspired by Homer’s Odyssey.

What’s New This Week

I just have a few new colorways to show you this week because it’s club colorway week, so my focus has been on creating the yarn and art batts for this month’s clubs.

Meanwhile though, I did dye up Burgundy Rose and Copper Roof on lots of yarn bases this week. Here is Copper Roof on Squiggle Sock:

I am also continuing to dye up the Butterfly colorways as they sell out, so this week I dyed up Indian Jezebel and Zebra Longwing. Here is Indian Jezebel on Stained Glass Sock:

Chic and Regal’s Sparktacular Shawl

Keep your eyes peeled for Chic and Regal Knits’ new Sparktacular Shawl. She used my Sparkly Merino Sock yarn to create this gorgeous, lacy shawl with just one skein of yarn, and her pattern will be live in just a couple more weeks. Helaina has been so great to work with! The colorways shown here are Starlight and Forest Floor. I think her pattern would look great with any of my semi-solid, Ikat, or Splashed and Speckled colorways.

On a Personal Note

This is one of those crazy weeks with everyone going in different directions. Two of our kiddos went down to visit our oldest daughter and her husband in San Antonio yesterday. Our son-in-law just got his pilot’s license, and as I write this they are getting ready to go up in a plane. How exciting! Our teenage son is getting ready to leave for Colorado for Boy Scout Camp. I’m really hoping he can get everything done for becoming an Eagle Scout in time. Meanwhile, we are still chipping away at the brick wall between our house and our neighbor’s house, but the lion’s share of the work is being done by our oldest son and my husband. It’s almost done, but this brutal heat is hard to work in for sure, so they are limiting the work time to early mornings and evenings at this point.

I think that’s everything for this week. Stay well and stay cool! What a great week to spend inside with a project to work on and something cold to drink. Hmm. I think I’ll go make myself a cup of iced coffee.
