Two Skeins Are Better than One

Good morning, and happy Friday to you! This week, I put together some pairs of yarn that look great together along with some beautiful patterns to go with them. I also want to tell you about next month’s club colorway painting and share a beautiful cowl pattern by a talented designer.

Yarn Pairings

This week I decided to share some pairs of yarn that go well together along with some patterns that work well with them. I really love shawlettes, and that is what most of these are. These are such a nice-sized project for a busy time of year–big enough to be substantial and interesting enough to enjoy without being huge and never-ending.

I included sock-weight yarn bases, and most of them feature one variegated colorway alongside of one semi-solid colorway. I’ll show you the yarn first by yarn base and then links to some pattern possibilities to go with them. If you click on any of the photos, the link will take you to the proper yarn base.

Patterns to Go with the Yarn Pairings

That leads us to the patterns. The first one is Albuquerque Sunset by Casapinka, and I actually made that shawlette using the two colorways above. Here’s a photo of my shawl:

Casapinka’s Albuquerque Sunset using Burgundy Rose and Monet’s Houses of Parliament

This had a really interesting stitch combination that I have not come across anywhere else.

Here are some other knitting patterns that would work great with these yarn pairings:

  • Grandling by Taiga Hilliard – This one is perfect for a variegated skein alongside of a semi-solid skein, and it’s free!
  • Hane by Brandy Velten – This beautiful pattern is all about the lace. The designer is also the indie dyer at Long Dog Yarn.
  • Loop by Casapinka – Next is another beautiful pattern by Casapinka that looks like so much fun

Here are some beautiful crochet pattern possibilities:

I hope some of these patterns and yarn combinations have sparked your imagination!

December Club Colorway Painting

Each year for the December club colorway, I choose a Madonna and Child painting. This year, I chose The Adoration of the Kings by Hugo van der Goes as inspiration for the December club colorway. He painted it for the altarpiece in Monforte around 1470. I love the fact that Mary is quite young in the painting. Even more, though, I chose this particular work of art because the colors are just gorgeous. I can hardly wait to get started!

In January, we will continue forward through the major periods of art with a painting from the Neoclassical era. Meanwhile, if you are still looking for the perfect gift for your favorite fiber artist, you might consider giving that special someone a subscription to one of my art-inspired yarn or art batt clubs.

Carol Wells’ Viriditas Cowl

Just this week, Carol Wells reached out to me to show me her latest knitting pattern. She is a fabulous knitwear designer, and she created a gorgeous cowl pattern called the Viriditas Cowl using Enchanted Forest on Stained Glass Sock. Here is a photo of it:

Isn’t it beautiful? You can find this and many other patterns in Carol’s Ravelry store.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a very happy and stress-free Thanksgiving this year! I’ll see you next week with exciting news.
