Spin Together, the October Club Colorway, and the Last of the Advent Calendars

Good morning, and happy Friday to you! I just have a few things I want to tell you about today, so I’ll get right to it.

Spin Together

First of all, Spin Together begins in just eight days! You can still sign up for a week of spinning fun. As I mentioned before, this is the first year I get to participate as a spinner, so I’m really excited about that. If you enjoy spinning, please consider joining a team even if you are a new spinner. It’s really so much more about the fun of spinning and the camaraderie and time to spin than it is about the competition, but it’s also a fun challenge, and there are great prizes too.

October Club Colorway

The October club colorway is going to be inspired by Thomas Moran’s “Golden Hour.” It’s such a stunning painting. I hope I can do it justice as yarn and art batts. Here it is:

Thomas Moran painted it in 1875, inspired by a sunset at The Green River in Wyoming. You can join any of my clubs or switch clubs by the 1st of the month right here.

A Few More Advent Calendars

As I write this I am down to just one more Spinner’s Advent Calendar and six more Yarn Advent Calendars.

I dyed up a single complete set of the Jane Austen themed yarn ones and made some adjustments, and now I am quite happy with the colorways. Now I’m going back through and dyeing up all the skeins one colorway at a time. I created most of them specifically for this year’s Advent calendars using a set of color symbols for each Jane Austen hero and heroine. The trick is to be true to each character while also making sure that the colors blend well from one to the next. It’s quite a process to figure these out each year, but it’s also a real joy to make them for all of you!

As soon as I have finished the yarn ones, I’ll get starting dyeing up the top for the Spinners’ Advent Calendars. I’ll be using a variety of luxury fibers for these. I don’t want to give away anything about the colors, but I think they are going to be great.

I think that’s about it. On a personal note, we’re enjoying a respite from the Texas heat that feels like fall even if it’s only temporary. It has been great having the windows open after several months of high heat and humidity. It’s especially nice to get to dye yarn in a bright studio with open windows and a cool breeze blowing through. Speaking of that, I’d better get back to the dye pots.

I’ll see you next week. Have a great weekend!
