New (Free) Knitting by the Pool Ponchette Pattern

Good morning, and happy Friday to you. I hope your summer is going well. This week I have a new pattern to share with you and a coupon code too so you can get the pattern for free through Sunday. I also have a preorder and lots of fresh colorways to share too.

Knitting by the Pool Ponchette

A few months ago, I started thinking about a pattern that combined assigned pooling with my favorite cozy accessory–the poncho, so I got to work. The result is my new pattern, Knitting by the Pool Ponchette. Here it is:

Why the unusual name? Well, I love to sit and knit while my family swims, and this pattern is perfect for that. There is very little counting, so it’s an easy pattern to enjoy while visiting or watching a movie or traveling. Also, there’s a double meaning since it is a “pooling” pattern.

Why a poncho, you ask? They are the perfect fiddle-free accessory to throw on when you need a little coziness. This is a small poncho, so we are calling it a ponchette.

As a small thank you to you for being a newsletter subscriber, you can get the pattern free through Sunday on Ravelry right here by using the coupon code PONCHETTE. If you aren’t on Ravelry, you can get it on my website too using the same coupon code. Here’s the link for that.

To knit the assigned-pooling version of the pattern as shown above, you’ll need one skein of an assigned pooling colorway and one skein of either a semi-solid or a splashed and speckled colorway. Any of my smooth sock-weight yarn bases will work well for this. In the pattern itself, I have some suggestions for colorway combinations.

After creating the assigned pooling version, I made a slightly simpler version with no assigned pooling that I am calling Option B. It just uses a single skein of sock-weight yarn with the option to add a contrasting lace edge.

For this version, you’ll need 400 yards for the main colorway. I would recommend using either a splashed and speckled colorway or a block variegated colorway. If you want to make the lace edge in a coordinating semi-solid colorway, you’ll need to allow 150 yards for that, so you could get 2 mini skeins or a full skein in a semi-solid colorway. The colorway in the sample I made is Sunrise, Sunset.

Both variations are included in the same pattern. If you have any questions or need help figuring out what colorways to put together, just email me. I’m always happy to help! I hope you enjoy the pattern so much.

Preorder on Diamond Silk Sock

Last week, I introduced my new Diamond Silk Sock yarn base, which is made of 100% mulberry silk. I was quite surprised that it sold out so quickly and grateful to all of you for making that happen. I have more on order, and I went ahead and set up a preorder listing for the five colorways I showed you last week. If the colorway you wanted sold out before you could get it last week, now you have a second chance. Here are those colorways once again:

From left to right, the colorways are Monet’s Water Lilies, Enchanted Forest, Monet’s Cathedral, Sapphire Dreams, and Beautiful Universe. I chose these five because they all go together so beautifully. Here is the link to the preorder in my shop.

Fresh from the Dye Pots

This week I dyed up Lothlorien for the first time in over a year. This block variegated colorway was inspired by the beautiful forest of the elves in The Lord of the Rings. Here it is on Buttery Soft DK:

It would match beautifully with Rivendell or with Eggplant.

I also dyed Northern Lights. Here that is on Stained Glass Sock:

Northern Lights with Emerald and Amethyst would be a great option for the Knitting by the Pool Ponchette.

After that, I dyed Ocean at Night. Here that is on the new Suri Lace Cloud:

I knit up a sample hat of Ocean at Night with Eggplant so you can get an idea of how it works up. Here that is:

The final colorway I dyed this week was Paris. I just got lots more of the new Suri Lace Cloud yarn base this week, so I’m dyeing up all the colorways that I think would look good in that yarn base as I go. Here is Paris on Suri Lace Cloud:

I love how the colors play together on this yarn base!

I had not thought of this until just now, but it occurs to me that one could make Option B of the Knitting by the Pool Ponchette using a skein of Suri Lace Cloud. This may have to be my next project. ;->

Upcoming Show and Tell Newsletter

I’m going to be doing the next Show and Tell newsletter either next week or the week after. I’d love to include your current WIPs and FOs, so please send me an email with a photo or two of what you’ve been working on. I would especially love to see and share some of your handspun yarn and projects made from it.

I think that’s everything. I hope you have a wonderful week. Stay cool!
