Dyeing

Is It Fall Yet?

Happy Saturday to you!

As I write this, I believe it is 106 degrees and somehow still humid outside. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for fall, so in anticipation, I wanted to show you a few of the fall colorways I have in stock.

Let’s start with a brand new colorway inspired by autumn in the beautiful forest where we lived in Michigan for a couple of years. This is Autumn Leaves shown on Sock Perfection, Squoosh DK, and Quick and Cozy Bulky. I’m going to be dyeing it up on Sparkly Merino Sock shortly as well.

Here’s Autumn Leaves together with Chocolate on Squoosh DK:

I dyed up Chocolate for the first time last week, and I wasn’t sure whether it would be well liked or not to tell the truth, but I sold out of all but this one skein of Squoosh DK in short order. I’ll be making more soon on several different yarn bases. I won’t tease you with photos of yarn I don’t have in stock.

The next colorway I want to show you is Enchanted Forest. I started making this one a few months back, and I really love it. Here it is on Alpaca Lace Cloud, Sock Perfection, Sparkly Merino Sock, and Squoosh DK:

I also want to show you something that really never fails to fascinate me, which is how different the same dye colors can look with different techniques. A few years ago, I decided to create some colorway pairs using the same dyes but applied in different ways. I’ve only kept a few of these, but this is one of my favorites.

The top two colorways are Lothlorien dyed on Sock Perfection and Squoosh DK. I dyed them using a technique where each dye color is kept mostly separate but allowed a little space to blend together.

Lothlorien and Mirkwood

The colorways on the bottom were made using the exact same dyes, but this time they were allowed to blend fully and (to use the technical term I use in my dye notes) smoosh together. This one is called Mirkwood, also on both Sock Perfection and Squoosh DK.

If you share my love of Tolkien, you’ll recognize the names as two of the forests in The Lord of the Rings.

You can see all of these as well as lots of other new colorways in the New This Month section of my shop.

As I’m writing this, I’m also dyeing up a Halloween colorway called Trick or Treat that I’m bringing back this year. It’s black with thin orange stripes. I should have it in the shop in a few days.

Yarn Advent Calendars

Many thanks to everyone who already pre-ordered one of my Yarn Advent Calendars. I have 3 more sets available with the Shimmer Sock minis and 5 more sets on Comfy Sock. You can choose from several yarn bases for the full-sized skein that goes with the kit as well.

I’m including Ambah O’Brien’s ADVENTuresome Wrap as part of the kit and designing the colorways to look wonderful with her lovely pattern.

That’s everything for today. Stay safe and stay well!
