Fresh-Dyed Colorways

We finished packaging the last of the Advent calendars on Tuesday, so they are all on their way to their new homes. It has been a pleasure to make these for you, but it has also been quite the whirlwind. My oldest son and I got the studio sorted back to “ordinary time,” and I’m looking forward to some more time and space for creating new colorways and dyeing up old favorites as well.

After finishing, I figured I would take a day to just knit and weave, but there were a few colorways I have been wanting to dye for so long that I just couldn’t stay out of my studio. Between those and some other colorways I dyed earlier in the week, I have lots of fresh-dyed yarn to share with you this week.

The first is Hawaiian Sunset on Squoosh DK:

–

Next is Dreams of the Sea on Sock Perfection:

Do you notice a theme going here?

–

I also dyed A Light in Dark Places on Sock Perfection:

–

I dyed a couple more Christmas colorways too. Here’s Poinsettia:

…and here is Christmas Cookies:

Now I’m onto the colorways I’ve been wanting to get back in the shop for a looong time.

The first of these was Burgundy Rose on Stained Glass Fingering:

Next came Annunciation Blue, also on Stained Glass Fingering:

–

After that I dyed Enchanted Forest for the first time in sooo long:

I love these two colorways together–Enchanted Forest and Annunciation Blue.

–

Last of all I dyed Afremov’s Farewell to Anger on both Stained Glass Fingering…

…and on Sock Perfection:

Sock Perfection and Splendid Sock

Speaking of Sock Perfection, the mill is all out of it until early next year. I’ve been using it sparingly since I found that out. Now I’m down to the last few undyed skeins in my studio, so I’m going to be substituting Splendid Sock for a few months. Honestly, you probably won’t even notice the difference as they are very similar, and they can certainly be used together.

Sock Perfection is an 80/20 blend of superwash merino and nylon while Splendid Sock is a 75/25 blend of the same. Sock Perfection is just a wee bit softer, which is why I prefer it. However, Splendid Sock has about 15 more yards per skein. They both have 4 plies, and they are both strong enough and soft enough for anything you want to make with them, including (obviously) socks.

Art Batt of the Week

This week I wanted to highlight Copper Roof, which is one of my oldest art batt colorways. Here is the art batt:

It’s made with merino, organic Polwarth, bamboo, and muga silk, and it’s lusciously soft.

Here is a 2-ply yarn I just finished spinning using two of these art batts:

I really enjoyed spinning it, and I’m trying to decide what to make with it. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

I think that’s everything for this week. I hope you enjoy what you’re making and make what you enjoy!
