Spring Has Sprung at Purple Lamb

Good morning and happy Friday to you! You know that time of year when the longing for spring becomes really intense? Well, that hit me a little early this year, and I’ve been joyfully dyeing up lots of springtime. The weather keeps changing its mind from winter to spring and back again here, but but that’s okay. It’s spring inside my studio. I wanted to show you the spring colorways I have been dyeing up and a few yarn pairings as well. I also want to show you a few new sock sets I have and tell you about the March club colorway.

Spring Colorways

Spring is my favorite season of the year. There’s so much hope in spring, and the colors are so beautiful! Just so you know, I dyed each one of these colorways below on somewhere between 4 and 7 different yarn bases, so there’s something for everyone.

Let’s start with Bouquet. This colorway was originally inspired by a little oil painting we have of a spring bouquet. Here it is on Stained Glass Sock for the first time:

Next up is Crocuses in Snow. When I made this colorway, I was thinking of the way these brave little flowers peak their beautiful little purple heads up right through the snow as a portend of spring to come. This one is made of all speckles and nothing but speckles in several shades of purple. Here is Crocuses in Snow on Sock Perfection:

Next up is one of my signature semi-solid colorways. It’s Burgundy Rose, and I really love this one. Here it is on Sparkly Merino Sock:

You can really see the sparkly lurex on this one, can’t you?

Now, let’s put them together. Here are Crocuses in Snow, Bouquet, and Burgundy Rose together, shown on So Silky Sock:

What I love about this set is that you get one speckled colorway, one variegated colorway, and one semi-solid colorway, so there’s never a dull moment.

Next, let’s take a look at Kristin Lavransdatter. This colorway was inspired by the main character of one of my favorite trilogies. It’s set in Medieval Norway, and the characters are fallen but true with all the subtlety of real people. If you haven’t read the books by Sigrid Undset, it’s well worth the time. Here’s Kristin Lavransdatter on So Silky Sock:

I love the subtlety of the pink, lilac, rose, and peach together.

Next up is one of my all-time favorites. It’s Paris, and it was inspired by a little tea set my daughter had with a Parisian landscape years ago. There’s something amazing about Paris in the springtime, and I tried to convey that with this colorway. Here it is on Squoosh DK:

Now let’s put those together, shall we? Here are Kristin Lavransdatter, Burgundy Rose, and Paris, all on So Silky Sock:

I have all three of these on Sock Perfection, Sparkly Merino Sock, So Silky Sock, and Squoosh DK.

Need two more colorways for a larger project? How about these? From left to right there are Rosy-Fingered Dawn, Kristin Lavransdatter, Burgundy Rose, and Paris plus Aubergine, all shown on So Silky Sock:

New Sock Sets

I also wanted to show you some new sock sets I have in the shop.

Sock Sets

Two of these are made with Cashmere Sock while the other two are made using Sock Perfection. The mini skeins are all made of Splendid Sock, which is perfect for heels and toes. I have a couple other colorways as well where I chose a semi-solid main skein to go with a variegated mini skein just to do something fun and different. You can find them all right here.

March Club Colorway

Back in December, you may recall that I was trying to decide between Lois Jones’ “Hong Kong à la Nuit” and Degas’ “Dancers in Blue” for the next club colorway. I asked for your thoughts, and many of you told me that you really prefer brighter colors for the dark days of winter, so I went with “Dancers in Blue.” However, now that it is getting to be springtime, I thought March would be the perfect time for Lois Jones’ “Hong Kong à la Nuit.” She painted it in 1966. I love the dark, dramatic colors and look forward to using it as the inspiration for my yarn and art batt club. Here it is:

I think that’s everything for this week. Have a lovely President’s Day weekend, and stay well!
