Monet Week at Purple Lamb

Good morning and happy Friday to you! This week is Monet week in my shop. I dyed up all the Monet colorways on a multitude of different yarn bases this week, so I thought I would take the opportunity to show you the colorways themselves as well as some yarn pairings that go along with them.

Let me start by reintroducing the four Monet colorways on Sock Perfection:

From left to right, the colorways are Monet, Monet’s Water Lilies, Monet’s Cathedral, and Monet’s Houses of Parliament.

Monet was the first one I created, and it was intended to just give the feel of one of Monet’s beautiful Impressionist paintings without actually imitating a particular one.

Monet’s Water Lilies, on the other hand, was inspired by one of the paintings in his beautiful water lily series:

Monet’s Cathedral, which was inspired by his series on the cathedral at Rouen, goes well with the other two.

While the previous three go beautifully together, this last one is a little different in terms of the color palette. It is Monet’s Houses of Parliament, inspired by a single painting from yet another series in which this finest artist explored the light on a given subject at different times and different seasons.

Now let’s have some fun! Let’s take a look at some color combinations or yarn pairings to go with each one. In each photo below, there is at least one Monet colorway along with other colorways that go well together.

Of note, I have these colorways on many different yarn bases, but I’ll just be showing them to you on Sock Perfection, So Silky Sock, and Stained Glass Sock.

I’ll sort them out by the number of skeins in each set so you can easily find the perfect set for your next project. There’s probably just enough time for one more shawl before it gets cool enough to actually start using it!

Which combo is your favorite? What’s your favorite shawl pattern for using colorway combos like this?

Spin Together

It’s that wonderful time of year again! We just opened the team creation phase of Spin Together, a week-long team-based spinning competition that a small group of indie dyers started. This will be our 4th year, and it is so much fun. Please spread the word at your LYS so they can create a team.

Beginning September 1st, you’ll be able to join a team, and the spinning competition takes place from October 1st through October 8th this year. It’s a ton of fun, and the prizes are great too. I’ll be offering gift cards to my shop as prizes.

Lord of the Rings Advent Calendars

Last week I introduced this year’s Advent calendars, and I am so grateful for your response. They are based on Frodo and Sam’s journey through The Lord of the Rings, and each of the 24 colorways will be based on a place they go or event that takes place there.

I just got the yarn for these, and I can’t wait to start dyeing them up for you. I do still have nine kits available now, and you can find out more right here.

I want to make sure that everyone who wants one can get one if I can, so let me know if you are hoping to get one even if you aren’t quite ready to order it yet. That way I can sit down and figure out if I can manage a few more kits.

I think that’s everything for today. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Happy fiber artistry!

  1. Hello! My name is Charley, and I live in SW Kansas. I just discovered your website and your yarn is absolutely stunning! Im a knitter and my favorite things to knit are shawls, and I prefer to use Sock/Fingering weight yarn. I swish I could have one of every skein you make, lol! I do have a question. I saw your art batt of Bohemian Rhapsody, and am wondering if you would ever make it available in skeins. I’ve been a Queen fan since I was a teenager in Iowa, since BoRap came out in 1975. And I’m 64 and still a fan! I would love to knit with it! And I’m getting Sunflowers, as Monet’s paintings are my favorites and I live in the sunflower state. Sorry this is so long! Im looking forward to knitting with your beautiful yarn!
