June Club Colorway and What’s New in the Shop

Good morning, and happy Friday to you.

First of all I want to say thank you to everyone who took part in my Mother’s Day and 10th Anniversary Sale. It went really well, and I appreciate all of you so much.

I also wanted to tell you what I chose for the June club colorway and show you what’s fresh from the dye pots this week.

June Club Colorway

For June, I chose a painting I have been wanting to do for a long time now. It’s by Georgia O’Keeffe, and it’s called “Blue and Green Music.” The idea of a visual representation of music really intrigues me, and the colors in this are so beautifully vibrant and perfect for summer.

She painted this when she was in her 30s while exploring the idea of using colors as symbols for sounds, and it can now be found at the Art Institute of Chicago.

As I write this, I’m trying to decide from among several different dye techniques I can use for this painting, but I have a bit of time to decide.

What’s New This Week

I feel like I am really getting into a good groove of creative efficiency of late. For the first time, I am able to really set good limits of how much I can reasonably accomplish in a day without working to the point of exhaustion, and it is really good. It all comes down to figuring out how to use the equipment I have and the space I have for maximum efficiency and also recognizing that I have more room for creative thought if I don’t push myself past a certain level every day. In short, I’m finding a good balance, and that makes me really happy.

That said, I some freshly dyed colorways to show you. I dyed each one of these on multiple yarn bases, but I’ll just show you one of each.

First up is Party Like It’s 2023. If you “tuned in” for last week’s newsletter, you’ll recall that I decided to change the name of this colorway given the fact that that 2021 party never really happened. Here is Party Like It’s 2023 on Feather Sock for the first time:

One of the big differences between a superwash yarn like Sock Perfection and a non-superwash yarn like Feather Sock is how the speckles turn out. With superwash yarn, they tend to be more crisp and small while with non-superwash yarn, they move a little more, giving this more of an Impressionist look. Here is Party Like It’s 2023 on Sock Perfection as a point of comparison.

Which do you prefer?

The next colorway I dyed up is Phantom of the Opera, which incidentally would look fantastic with Party Like It’s 2023. Here it is on So Silky Sock:

I dyed Phantom of the Opera on six different yarn bases, and here it is as an art batt too:

The next colorway I want to show you is Purple Iris. This is the first time I’ve made Purple Iris since last spring, and it’s one of my oldest running colorways. Here it is on Buttery Soft DK for the first time:

I also have Purple Iris as an art batt. Here that is:

The last colorway I have to show you this week is Rosy-Fingered Dawn. Here it is on Squiggle Sock for the first time:

I’ll be dyeing up Sapphire Dreams later today. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. See you next week!

Happy fiber artistry!
