Hand-Dyed Top and Some Christmas Gift Ideas

Good morning and happy Friday! Yesterday we had the last homeschool co-op of the semester, next week is the last gymnastics class, and college finals end in another week too. In one way, that means things will slow down a little as Christmas draws near. In another, they’ll speed up with all the preparations for the holiday. Is this time of year generally a little more restful or a little more chaotic for you?

Speaking of chaotic, if you are like me and still have gifts to make or buy for friends and family, I have some ideas. I also wanted to show you some freshly dyed top I have for all the spinners on lots of different luxury bases.

Hand-Dyed Top

Let’s start with the hand-dyed top. I have a variety of luxury top and top blends to choose from but just one or two of each in a given colorway.

You can click on the photos to get right to the hand-dyed top section of my shop.

Let’s start with the most luxurious. These are made with a blend of 70% fine merino and 30% cashmere! To say they are soft is an understatement!

Next up is another wonderfully luxurious blend made of 70% extra-fine merino and 30% mulberry silk.

These next two would be perfect for spinning and knitting socks. The blend is 70% superwash merino and 30% nylon.

I dyed these next ones on BFL. This BFL is softer than most. The Earth, Sea, and Sky colorway is new, by the way. Just like our beautiful planet, it has a combination of blues, greens, and brown.

I also have some fun hand-dyed firestar that’s great for adding sparkle to top, art batts, or your own fiber with a blending board:

Last but not least on the fiber front, I have dyed sets of kid mohair locks for you. You’ll get some of each of the four colors. These are so much fun to spin on their own or to use for tail spinning and lots of other techniques!

Heavy-Weight Champions

If you are still in the midst of creating gifts and need something that will be a little bit quicker, you might consider some of my heavier weight yarn. I have Wonderful Worsted, Aran Go Baa, and Quick and Cozy Bulky. They are all made of 100% superwash merino, and they are all lovely and soft.

Here is one of my favorite colorways on each of those three bases, but I have many more to choose from:

Ready-Made Gifts

If you are in need of some lovely and unique gifts for friends and family, I also have hand-dyed scarves. I have been dyeing up lots of my regular yarn colorways on these silk infinity scarves and long rectangular scarves, and it’s just really delightful to see how they turn out. It’s always a bit of a surprise depending on how the fabric folds and how the colors combine. These are so elegant, and they make such a thoughtful one-of-a-kind gift for your loved ones!

You can find all the silk scarves here. I think this one–Field of Lavender–is my personal favorite of the latest set:

I think that’s pretty everything for today. I would like to do another Show and Tell newsletter right around the second week of January, so please do take photos of all the beautiful things you are making and send them my way whenever you think of it. That way we can all inspire each other with project ideas.

Stay well, and have a blessed and peaceful December. I’ll see you next week.
