Enchanted Forest and Lots of Life

Good morning and happy Friday! I hope you’re doing well this week.

We have some exciting family news. One of our sons is graduating from college this weekend. I’m so proud of him! He even won the departmental award for his major, computer science.

We also have our first family wedding coming up. Our oldest daughter will be getting married in a few short months. In “honor” of her upcoming wedding, we just watched Steve Martin’s Father of the Bride last weekend, and the scene I loved the most was the one where she tells her parents about her fiancĂ©, but the whole time she’s talking, her dad is envisioning her as a cute little 7-year-old saying the same words. That one hit a little close to home. Just like in the movie, though, her fiance is quite wonderful, and we’re so pleased to be able to welcome him to the family. Also on the marriage front, my husband and I celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary tomorrow.

A less earth-shaking but still exciting bit of news is that our newly minted 16-year-old son (the one who helps me dye) just got his first job at a great burger joint. Hopefully he’ll still find some time to dye his wonderful colorways.

Enchanted Forest

This week I got to dye up one of my very favorite colorways on seven different bases. It’s Enchanted Forest, which was inspired by all the forests in The Lord of the Rings and fairy tales and mythology–this place of mystery and magic.

Here it is on several of my yarn bases:

I also want to show Enchanted Forest to you on Squiggle Sock:

I think the texture of Squiggle Sock goes so perfectly with Enchanted Forest, don’t you?

Here’s a closeup of Enchanted Forest on Stained Glass Sock as well:

I think the black ply running through the yarn adds even greater elegance to the colorway. It’s so much fun to see how different bases can look on the same colorway!

I dyed it on some new top as well. The top is made of baby alpaca and silk, and I can’t wait to show it to you, but it will have to dry first so I can photograph it.

I also dyed up some of my new Carousel Horse colorway on that same top, and my daughter dyed up several beautiful gradients too. Those are still drying, but I should have all the new hand-dyed top listed early next week.

Until then, I hope you have a great weekend and that you find some time to enjoy the fiber arts.
