Beautiful Universe and a Sale on Silk Scarves

Good morning, and happy Friday to you! It’s hard to believe we are this far into December already. Time has been racing by for me. Has it been for you too?

This week, I have some exciting news. Let’s get right to it.

Beautiful Universe

I first dyed Beautiful Universe four years ago. I had the idea for the colors before I had the idea for a name, so after I dyed it, I asked folks on the Purple Lamb Facebook page to help me name it. Everyone suggested something space-related–galaxies, nebulae, stars–so I started going through Hubble Space Telescope photos. Nothing matched the yarn exactly, but they were all gorgeous, and I was just struck by how beautiful the universe is. It didn’t have to be. It could be dull and flat and boring, but instead it is astonishingly beautiful. I ended up naming the colorway Beautiful Universe because of that.

Now it gets complicated. It was the hardest, most time-consuming, most complex colorway I had ever made, so over time I started looking for small ways to simplify the dye process. Somewhere along the way though, it lost a little bit of its mysterious beauty.

This week I decided to go back to the original method of dyeing it–the one that takes absolutely forever to do–and I’m so glad I did. It is more dramatic, more intriguing, and it just lives up to its name a little better, so here is the new-old Beautiful Universe:

I dyed it on these six yarn bases, and it’s available in the shop right now.

It goes beautifully with Annunciation Blue and Eggplant as shown here on Stained Glass Sock:

It also makes a great fade with Monet and Northern Lights. Here it is on Sparkly Merino Sock:

In addition to these colorways, it looks great with Turquoise, Little Black Dress, and Emerald and Amethyst.

In fact, I used Beautiful Universe with Emerald and Amethyst in my Knitting by the Pool Ponchette pattern.

I hope you enjoy this new-old colorway!

Sale on Silk Scarves

If you are like me, you probably still have someone on your gift list who is harder to shop for than most. I may have a solution for you. I have a nice selection of silk scarves dyed up and ready to ship. They come in a variety of different sizes and colorways, and they are a great way to dress up an outfit all year long. Even if I dye the same colorway, they never turn out quite the same, so these make wonderful one-of-a-kind gifts.
