This week I dyed up some lovely silk scarves that would be great for Valentine’s Day and beyond. Meanwhile my daughter Elizabeth made some beautiful stitch markers with the same idea. They’ll make you smile all year long!
Let’s start with the scarves. They are all made of fine mulberry silk, but I have a couple different sizes and a few different silk weaves, which I’ll tell you about too.
I dyed these on silk crepe:

Silk crepe is a very crisp and shiny type of weave. It’s very airy and light too. These are 11 x 60, which is a nice medium size–long enough to wrap twice or allow it to hang down. Here’s Juliet doubled over at the neck shown on my mannequin, Madame:

Isn’t Juliet the perfect colorway for Valentine’s Day?
I dyed these next four scarf colorways on silk satin:

These are a bit smaller at 8 x 54 inches. They are made of silk, and satin is the type of weave. It’s shiny on one side and more matte on the other, and it’s thicker than the silk crepe or the habotai below. I think this is my personal favorite. It has a lovely velvety feel. Out of this set, I think Tulips would be a great Valentine’s Day and spring colorway, don’t you?
I dyed this last set on habotai silk:

Habotai is just a fancy word for plain weave, which means the weft goes over one warp thread and under the next. These are light weight and have great drape. They are 11 x 60 inches. Wouldn’t Fuchsia Flower be great for Valentine’s Day?
All the silk scarves are now in their own collection right here.

New Stitch Markers
We have a great selection of stitch markers with some new sets just in time for Valentine’s Day:

Aren’t these darling? I can’t decide which ones I like best! They all come in sets of five.
I love the clasps we’re using. They open and close, so they work for knitting and crochet, but they are lighter than the lobster-clasp type and easier to use in my opinion.
You can find all the stitch markers right here in my shop.

Spin Together
The 7th year of Spin Together is coming up, and sign-ups are open now through the 15th. You can join one of twelve fabulous teams and enjoy a week of camaraderie and spinning joy. It’s really low-stress and fun, especially since we decided to focus on the art of spinning rather than speed. There are eight different contests ranging from finest lace to wildest art yarn and everything in between. We have a novice contest too for people who have been spinning less than a year, so don’t let being a new spinner stop you. You can learn more and sign up on the Spin Together website right here.

Angel Wings Ponchette – New DK-Weight Version
I just finished updating the Angel Wings Ponchette pattern to include a new DK-weight version. I thought it would be nice to have a heavier weight version–both to make it faster to knit up and to make it warmer for winter. Here’s the sample I made:

I used Beautiful Black Hole, Beautiful Galaxy, and Northern Lights on Squoosh DK. The Angel Wings Ponchette pattern now includes both the fingering-weight and DK-weight patterns at no extra cost. If you already bought the pattern on Ravelry, you’ll find an update in your library. If you bought it in my shop, you should have gotten an email with the update. If not, let me know so I can send it to you.
I have not had a chance to add the DK-weight options to the kit yet, but I hope to soon.

Fresh from the Dye Pots
This week I dyed the four Vivaldi colorways, the two Peacock colorways, Evergreen, and the Phoenix. You can see them all in the New Section of my shop right here. Here’s Evergreen on Buttery Soft DK:

Show and Tell Next Week
This is just a reminder that next week is Show and Tell–where we get to see what beautiful things you have been working on. Whether it’s a finished projected or a work in progress, please email me a photo and any pattern info. Feel free to add your own thoughts on the project too. Handspun yarn and felted items are always welcome too!
I think that’s everything for this week. See you next week for the Show and Tell!
Stay cozy!
