Handspun Highlight Scarf

This week I wanted to “highlight” the Handspun Highlight Scarf designed by Orange Smoothie at my request. This was my very first collaboration, and I’m still in awe of her very cool design.

The scarf uses one skein of a sock-weight yarn along with about 25 yards of handspun yarn. I just made sets available on my website for this scarf. The set comes with a skein of Lilac on your choice of sock-weight yarn bases and a Highland Heather art batt. You can find the yarn and art batt sets right here, and you can get the pattern directly from Orange Smoothie on Ravelry here.

If you are not a spinner, I included an option to have me spin the art batt for you. It will look a lot like this:

Fresh from the Dye Pots

This week I dyed Black Butterfly on several yarn bases. Here it is on Twinkle Sock, which is probably my favorite for this colorway:

It’s an ikat colorway with Burgundy Rose, Seafoam, Caribbean Blue, and Lilac dyed on a black background. The colors show up like little dots in garter stitch and stars in stockinette. To give you an example, here is Candi’s Intersection Cowl that she sent in a couple years ago for a Show and Tell newsletter.

I also dyed up Annunciation Blue for the first time in a while on Sock Perfection:

Just yesterday I dyed up Monet, Purple Delight, and Epiphany on Twinkle Fingering:

These three are the most popular colorway combo for my Angel Wings Ponchette pattern.

You can see all of these colorways and a few more in the New section of my shop right here.

February Club Colorway

For this month’s club colorway, I chose a still-life by Rachel Ruysch, a Dutch painter from the Dutch Golden Age:

It’s called Still Life with Flowers, and she painted it around the year 1700. A wife and mother of a large family, she continued her work as an artist throughout her long life, and she enjoyed great fame during her lifetime for her beautiful, accurate still-life paintings.

Four Seasons Shawl Pattern Coming Soon

I finally finished a shawl pattern I’ve been working on since early autumn! I used my Vivaldi Four Seasons colorways on Buttery Soft DK and made a motif for each season. Here is a sneak peak of the four motifs:

Spring has little flowers, summer has blackberries, autumn has falling leaves, and winter has snowflakes. It’s a big cozy boomerang shawl. I am hoping to publish the pattern by next Friday both on my website and on Ravelry.

Sport Weight?

I have carried different sport-weight yarn bases several times over the years only to eventually discontinue them because they haven’t sold well. However, there are some really lovely patterns in sport weight. At the risk of sounding like a flibbertigibbet (isn’t that a fun word?), I’m considering adding a sport-weight yarn base once again. My question for you is twofold:

  1. Would you use a sport-weight yarn?
  2. If so, would you like it to have nylon or not?

Please send me a quick email me with your response if you have a moment. Thanks in advance!

See you next week!
