Assigned Pooling, Dyeing

Behind the Scenes

This week I have been working behind the scenes to make my website a little more sleek and streamlined. Now you can filter your search by yarn weight, yarn base, and dye method for Yarn Ready to Ship and by dye method for Yarn Dyed to Order.

You can choose multiple filters at the same time. Say you want a sock-weight or fingering-weight colorway that works for an assigned pooling pattern. First click on the filters for yarn weight just above where the colorways start:

Next add the filter for Dye Method here:

Now you can see just what you’re looking for!

Or say you really love Buttery Soft DK, and you need two skeins for a project you hope to start as soon as possible, so you look in the Yarn Ready to Ship, click on the Yarn Base filter, and click the checkbox for Buttery Soft DK.

Now you’ll only see the Buttery Soft DK skeins that are in stock and ready to ship.

For Dyed to Order, I only included the Dye Method since you can choose whatever base you want me to dye the yarn on for you. That way if you know you want an assigned pooling colorway, you can limit your search to that. If you want a semi-solid colorway, you can just look for those. If you want a variegated colorway that isn’t likely to pool, you can just search for Splashed & Speckled colorway. If you want a variegated colorway but you’re okay with the possibility of a little pooling, you can include both Splashed & Speckled and Block Variegated like this:

If you’d like to learn more about the different dye methods I use and what they’re good for, I have some information on dye methods on my website right here.

The question of what type of dye method works best for a given project is definitely a question of personal taste and experience too. If you ever need help figuring out what to use for a project, I’m only an email away. There’s also a great book by Lorna Miser called The Knitter’s Guide to Hand-Dyed and Variegated Yarn on Amazon with lots of tips and examples of how different types of hand-dyed yarn work up and stitches that look great with different dye methods.

This is a work in progress, so if you have a different way you like to search for yarn, let me know what it is so I can add it if possible.

Skating for Joy

I found the story of Alysa Liu very inspiring! She won the Olympic Gold Metal for Women’s Figure Skating. She is an amazing skater, but I was impressed even more by the joy with which she skates. Here’s a link to her freestyle skate from the Milan Olympics a few weeks ago.

I decided to create a colorway in honor of Alysa called Skating for Joy. Here that is:

It has light blue, dark blue, turquoise, and deep purple along with speckles of blue and purple. You can find Skating for Joy on Sock Perfection and in the dyed to order section of my shop.

I think that’s everything. I’m off to the dye pots. Stay cozy!
