A Shout-Out to the Designers

This week, I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to all the designers who chose to use Purple Lamb yarn for their designs. Every designer has been a delight to work with, and I want to give a shout-out to each one by sharing their patterns with you today.

The very first collaboration was with Orange Smoothie way back in 2018. I had this idea for a scarf with a squiggle of handspun yarn running through it, and she was able to make it a reality using a single cable stitch in each row. It’s called the Handspun Highlight Scarf, and you can see it right here:

She went on to create another similar pattern called the Handspun Highlight Cowl as well:

Each pattern calls for a single skein of sock-weight yarn and a small amount of handspun yarn.

The next designer to use my yarn was Pamela Whitman for her beautiful Jabot Cowl, which was actually her first pattern! While the colorway she chose–Queequeg–is no longer available, any variegated sock-weight colorway would work. Here is the Jabot Cowl:

After that was a pattern for Dana Gervais’ book called Footnotes: Sock Patterns Inspired by Words, which has all sorts of fabulous sock patterns. You can find her book on Amazon right here. The particular pattern that involved my yarn is called Sillage:

The original colorway used for these socks was called Margarita. My newer Matcha Latte colorway is quite similar but a wee bit toned down.

Next was Kathryn Ware of KPC Wear. She designed this beautiful Rose Window Tee, which you can see here:

Kathryn used Lilac for the body, Little Black Dress for the black edges, and Paris for the yoke on Stained Glass Sock. Isn’t it amazing? I was blown away by her design!

The next collaboration was with my friend Donna Farrell. She crocheted the beautiful Primrose Lace Summer Shawl in a variety of colorways, and I am the proud owner of one she made using Enchanted Forest right here:

After that I collaborated with Helaina of Chic and Regal Knits. She used a skein of Starlight to design a gorgeous lacy shawl called Sparktacular:

Helaina donates 25% of her pattern proceeds to organizations that help with animal rescue.

The next collaboration was with Lena Mathisson of Softyarn Designs. She used my Sunflower colorway to create this gorgeous shawl called Sunflower of Hope:

Lena donates 25% of the proceeds to organizations helping Ukrainians displaced by the war.

After that I got to work with Carol Wells who has used Purple Lamb yarn for several fabulous designs. The first one is the Viriditas Cowl:

Carol used Enchanted Forest on Stained Glass Sock for this pattern.

She went on to design this darling baby sweater called the Puffer Jacket Baby Sweater:

To make it she used Sage on Buttery Soft DK.

Next Carol designed this fabulous pattern called Ansgar Cabled Earwarmers, which offers several different cable options. She used Sage on Buttery Soft DK for this one, too:

Most recently Carol designed Brigid’s Shawl. We got to meet in person just as she was finishing it, and it is really gorgeous!

Carol used Annunciation Blue on So Silky Sock for her design.

The next collaboration was with Deborah Bowanko. We’ve worked on several projects together and become friends in the process. The first one was a beautiful shawl she designed called Pools of Color, which uses an assigned pooling colorway for the body and a semi-solid for the edge.

I have the yarn for this pattern right here.

Deborah also created Buds and Blooms, which uses two skeins of assigned pooling yarn and a semi-solid skein dyed to match.

I have these colorways and some others available as yarn sets for Buds and Blooms right here.

The last pattern was created by my daughter, Elizabeth. It’s called Wiglaf after her favorite character from Beowulf. The scarf is made using two colorways with stripes that get thicker in one colorway as they get thinner in the other. It’s really neat!

She used Mithril and The Winedark Sea on So Silky Sock to make the scarf.

Those are all the patterns I’m aware of. If you have published a pattern that uses Purple Lamb yarn, please let me know so I can share it. Also, if you are an established designer and would like to collaborate, please feel free to email me.

Show and Tell Next Week

I had planned to do a Show and Tell newsletter sometime in March, but March kind of got away from me. Let’s do one next week! Please send me any WIPS or FOs you would like me to include along with pattern info. This is a great way to share what you’re working on with folks who will appreciate it as well as inspiring others with ideas for their next project.

Fresh from the Dye Pots

I have lots of freshly-dyed yarn this week. You can see all of it right here in my shop, but I do want to point out one new colorway. This is Beautiful Galaxy:

Beautiful Galaxy is very similar to Beautiful Universe, but it’s a little lighter overall, and it has more Lilac in it. I just sold the skeins I had in stock, but I have it available in the dyed to order section of my shop.

I think that’s all for now. See you next week. Happy fiber artistry!
