A New Colorway, A New Pattern, and the October Club Colorway

This week I have a new colorway to share with you. It’s called Fuchsia Flower, and it was inspired by these beautiful tropical flowers:

Here is Fuchsia Flower on Sock Perfection:

…and here is a swatch I knit in stockinette:

It looks great with Autumn Sunset, Burgundy Rose, and Regal.

I have it available on Sock Perfection and dyed to order on any base you choose. You can also see it along with many other fresh-dyed colorways in the New section of my shop here.

A New Knitting Pattern

I also have a new blanket knitting pattern for you called Positive Curvature. I have made lots of tiny mitered squares, and maybe you have too. I love how the two-colored ones make that beautiful 90-degree striped curve as if by magic. I started wondering what would happen if I made a blanket using one big mitered square instead of lots of little ones, and this pattern is the answer to that question.

The name is kind of a play on words for a concept in physics and geometry. Positive curvature is what happens to parallel lines on a sphere. Think of the lines of longitude on the globe and how they get closer together near the poles. Astronomers say it is also one possibility for how the universe is shaped, which I find fascinating!

It’s knit in garter stitch for maximum squishiness. Here’s the sample I knit using Sunflower and Day at the Beach on Squoosh Worsted:

The pattern calls for worsted-weight yarn, and it has 6 different sizes from a 15-inch square lovey all the way up to a 60-inch afghan. I made the 42-inch receiving blanket, and I will tell you that it is really tricky to get the whole thing in one photo. Here are a few more photographs:

My husband kindly held it up so you could see most of the blanket and a little bit of him peaking over the top!

Again, the pattern is called Positive Curvature, and you can get it on my website here or on Ravelry here. You can even download it for free today through Sunday using the coupon code POSITIVELYFREE.

October Club Colorway

This month we are moving into the Baroque period with none other than the man who mastered light and darkness like no other. I knew I wanted to choose a painting by Caravaggio, but finding one that would look good as yarn and art batts proved a bit challenging. I finally chose The Denial of Saint Peter, which he painted in 1610, near the end of his life. Here it is:

On a Personal Note

Well, it seemed like my dear daughter was in early labor last weekend, so I drove down to help with the baby. Unfortunately, her labor stalled out, so after staying a few days and getting to spend some nice time with her, my son-in-law, and my delightful grandson, I headed back home. I still can’t wait to meet this new little baby boy or girl!

Meanwhile, I’m busily dyeing up the colorway sets for Lena Mathisson’s Mermaid Dance mystery knitalong that we talked about last week. The MKAL begins on October 15th, so there’s still time to sign up and order the yarn for it too!

I hope you are starting to enjoy fall weather. Apparently somebody forgot to tell Texas that it’s autumn, but we’ll get there eventually! Have a great weekend. Happy fiber artistry!
